Jon Steinhaus Lineworker Scholarship

In 1956, Jon Steinhaus began his career with the former Adams-Marquette Electric Cooperative as an apprentice lineman. He progressed through the ranks and was named General Manager in 1976. Mr. Steinhaus retired in 1996 after 40 years of dedicated cooperative service. The purpose of the Jon Steinhaus Line worker Scholarship Program is to encourage men and women to pursue an electric line worker career.

THIS SCHOLARSHIP IS CLOSED FOR 2023.

The program was available March 1 – April 15, 2023. All applications and reference forms must be submitted by April 15, 2023. There will be no exceptions to any material received after this date.

ELIGIBILITY:

Scholarship eligibility includes anyone who is a high school senior (or older). Successful applicants must be enrolled in an Electrical Power Distribution (EPD) program at a certified EPD school in the United States. Although not a requirement, preference is given to members of Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative.

AWARDS:

If you are awarded a scholarship, you will be asked to furnish a non-returnable photograph of yourself for publications. The announcement of the annual scholarship program is made on this website, through area high school guidance counselors, and Wisconsin Technical Colleges offering line technician training programs.

REQUIREMENTS:

The following items must be submitted:

  • Completed application
  • Three reference forms
    • Reference forms may be given to a high school principal, teacher, county agent, youth agent, banker, employers, etc. At least one reference should be from an employer or community leader. 
  • High School Transcript
  • Post-Secondary Transcript (if available)

Visit our online scholarship portal to complete your application, including the essay and reference forms. Applicants will need to create an account as they begin the application process. Applicants will also be asked to list three references with their email addresses. The references will receive an automatic email with a link to complete the reference form, which will attach to your application after they submit the reference form.
