Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative Aids in Minnesota Storm Recovery Effort

June 18, 2010

Friendship, WI–Powerful overnight storms have devastated many parts of Minnesota. As a result, electric cooperatives across Wisconsin are responding to calls for assistance to restore electric service to thousands of homes, farms and businesses. Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative will join the response by sending experienced line technicians, vehicles, equipment and materials.

Adams-Columbia has been asked to assist with recovery efforts at Freeborn-Mower Cooperative Services headquartered in Albert Lea, along the I-90 corridor. Across Minnesota, assessment is still underway to determine the scope of the storm damage. Right now it is not known how long ACEC personnel will be needed to assist with restoration work.

Restoration of electric services is considered a priority in any disaster recovery effort. Electric cooperative personnel will work closely with emergency government coordinators to maximize efficiency and to ensure the safety of everyone involved.

"All of the electric cooperatives in the United States have mutual aid agreements to assist each other in disasters," said Chuck Spargo, ACEC's Chief Operating Officer. He added, "Just as ACEC has previously come to the aid of cooperatives in need, we have also been the recipient of outside help following major storms." Assisting cooperatives are reimbursed for their expenses.
