Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative Holds 22nd Annual Meeting

Friendship, WIMore than 500 members and special guests gathered at the Montello High School on April 4, for the 22nd Annual Meeting of Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative. Prior to the business meeting, members enjoyed listening to music from popular local entertainer (and cooperative member) Maggie Mae Hilliard.
The business meeting was called to order by Board Chairman Kendal Nichols. Members of the Montello High School Choir, under the direction of Mary Ott, sang the national anthem; Vice Chairman Gene Alexander was called upon to give the invocation.
In their annual report, individual board members and Chief Executive Officer Marty Hillert commented on timely issues facing the cooperative and consumers. Their report concluded with questions from the audience. Sheldon Petersen, the Governor and Chief Executive Officer of the National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (CFC), was the keynote speaker. He provided insightful commentary on recent developments in the financial world and their impacts on the utility industry. Also speaking was Becky Borkovec, Franklin, on her experiences as an ACEC-sponsored youth delegate to the National Youth Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C.
More than 400 cooperative members registered to vote for director candidates in each of four districts. Re-elected for three-year terms were incumbent directors Gene Alexander, Nekoosa; Scott Parr, Friendship; Carolyn Moon, Baraboo; and Cheri Gibeaut, Endeavor.
Board officers elected at a reorganizational meeting following adjournment of the annual meeting were: Kendal Nichols, Wisconsin Dells, chairman; Gene Alexander, Nekoosa, vice-chairman; Lawrence Becker, Montello, secretary; and Carolyn Moon, Baraboo, treasurer.
More than $1,600 in prizes was awarded to members in attendance. The grand prize: three months free electricity, up to $350 was awarded to Sharon Maggioncalda, Pardeeville. Prior to the meeting a pancake breakfast was served by The Pancake Brothers, with the assistance of several ACEC employees and volunteers from the Community Learning Center of Montello. Approximately 650 pancake breakfasts were served in just 90 minutes.
