Terms and Conditions of Membership

By applying for membership to Adams-Columbia Electric Cooperative, an applicant agrees to purchase electrical energy from ACEC under the following terms and conditions:

  1. The Applicant will pay a membership in the amount of $5.00. Each Applicant is allowed one membership only. The membership will be in the Applicant's name and the Applicant will be responsible for the bill.
  2. The applicant will purchase from the Cooperative all electrical energy consumed on the premises described in the application (except for that generated by his own equipment), and will pay, therefore, monthly or quarterly rates to be determined from time to time in accordance with the policies of the Cooperative.
  3. The Applicant will cause his premises to be wired in accordance with Cooperative rules and the Wisconsin Electrical Code and provide the Cooperative with an authorized wiring inspector's certificate, or a wiring affidavit as required by law.
  4. The Applicant will comply with and be bound by the provisions of the articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of the Cooperative, and such rules and regulations as may from time to time be adopted by the Board of Directors.
  5. The Applicant, by paying a membership fee and becoming a Member, assumes no personal liability or responsibility for any debts or liabilities of the Cooperative.
  6. The Cooperative is authorized to enter a subscription in the name of the applicant to the Wisconsin Energy Cooperative News. The subscription fee for this is paid for the applicant by the Cooperative out of monthly deposits made by members of the Cooperative in the same manner as are other expenses of the Cooperative.
  7. The acceptance of this application by the Cooperative shall constitute an agreement between the applicant and the Cooperative, and the contract for electrical service shall continue in force for one year if the new service requires a work order. The minimum shall be not less than 30 days if no work order is requested.
  8. It is the responsibility of the members to see that they are charged the rate for which they are qualified. The rates for members are available at the office of the Cooperative. It is the further responsibility of the Members to notify the Cooperative of any change that affects the rate.
  9. When a meter has been set for a Member it is considered a permanent installation. Cost of any change in facilities or entrance thereafter shall be paid by the Member. All lines, meters, and property entrances must be and remain accessible to the Cooperative.
  10. The Applicant thereby consents to the entry upon the Applicant's land by the cooperative to construct, reconstruct, operate, repair, maintain, relocate and replace thereon and under the surface thereof all appropriate poles, cables, wires and other attachments, equipment, and accessories necessary and appropriate for the distribution of electrical energy to the Applicant's premises.
  11. The Applicant hereby grants to the Cooperative a security interest, as recognized under the Cooperative by-laws, in the capital credits or patronage capital heretofore accrued, or which may accrue, as a result of electrical service provided to the member/patron. The member/patron agrees to sign such other documents as may be requested by the cooperative in order to perfect and continue the Cooperative's security interest in patronage capital. The granting of this security interest, and its' retention by the Cooperative, does not require the cooperative to retire the patronage capital of the member/patron in any manner other than according to the discretion of the Cooperative's Board of Directors, in accordance with the Cooperative by-laws and the policies established by the Board of Directors.
