ACEC Members - Consider Time-of-Day Rate
Adams-Columbia members looking for a way to have more control over their energy budget may want to consider using the cooperative’s time-of-day rate. In ACEC’s summary of rates it’s called Schedule GS-TOD.
It’s available for all single-phase users who require less than 50 kVA of transformer capacity, or less than 40 kW in demand. In simpler terms, the rate is available for virtually all of ACEC’s residential consumers.
The time-of-day rate requires consumers to rethink how (and when) they use electricity. Most of us are used to paying the same price for electricity anytime of the day or night. The time-of-day rate encourages energy consumption during off-peak periods when demand is lower. The cooperative saves money on their wholesale power bill by reducing peak demand and the savings are passed along in a lower off-peak rate.
Beginning on January 11, 2010, ACEC members on the regular General Service Single Phase Farm and Residential rate will pay 10.5 cents per kWh of energy. This will be the rate regardless of how much or what time of day they use the energy. Compare that rate with those on the time-of-day rate – during on-peak times, members will pay 25.1 cents per kWh; during off-peak times, those same members will pay only 6.4 cents per kWh.
If those rates are discouraging, consider that on-peak periods are limited. From October 20 through April 20, the on-peak period is from 5 to 8 p.m. - a three hour window of time. From April 21 through October 19, the on-peak period is from 1to 8 p.m. - a seven hour window. All other hours are considered off-peak, including weekends and holidays.
By reducing your energy consumption during the peak periods you can effectively reduce your cost of electricity. You help to reduce the need for increased energy generation during peak usage periods and you save money at the same time.
The time-of-day rate is accomplished by programming in our standard AMR meter to keep track of the usage. Members on the time-of-day rate pay the same facility charge of 92.88 cents per day as do members on the conventional rate.
